Where our data comes from

DVLA — Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

The vehicle record: make, model, colour, fuel type, engine capacity, CO₂, date of first registration, current tax status and expiry, and SORN, import, export and scrap markers.

DVSA — Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency

MOT test history for England, Scotland and Wales: every test since 2005 with result, expiry date, recorded odometer reading, failure items and advisory notes.

Experian

The finance and provenance record: outstanding hire purchase, PCP and lease agreements, condition and write-off data, keeper change history, plate and colour change history, high-risk markers and previous search history.

MIAFTR

The Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register, maintained by the insurance industry, records total-loss claims and their write-off categories.

Police National Computer

Vehicles reported stolen to the police and not recorded as recovered.

SMMT

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders publishes outstanding manufacturer safety recalls by vehicle.

Valuation and specification providers

Full reports include market valuations and full factory specification data supplied by specialist automotive data providers, plus manufacturer library imagery for the model and colour.

How we access them

All of the above are accessed through One Auto API, a licensed UK automotive data aggregator, under commercial terms. We do not scrape, cache indefinitely or resell raw data feeds.

Known limits

• Records for Northern Ireland registrations can be less complete than for GB registrations.
• Accident damage that was never claimed on insurance will not appear on any register.
• Finance taken out very recently may not yet have been reported to the register.
• Mileage is only as reliable as the readings recorded — a gap between records cannot be verified.
• Where a source is unavailable or returns nothing, your report says so rather than implying a clear result.
